i guess i'm gonna have to clarify a few things to help you see the point.
a. i have no problem whatsoever with dick cheney (or any other politician of his ilk) shooting wealthy republican-donating texans in the face or elsewhere. in fact, i'd encourage them to do it much more frequently using more accurate and powerful weapons.
b. i don't want to see a prosecution if some vice-presidential dick sprays his load all over a friend's face unless it's determined to have been intentional.
c. i don't believe there's any excuse for cheney to enlist the aid of his assigned secret service agents to interfere with local law enforcement officers. if they're sworn to the same duty as all other peace officers, i don't understand why or how they're permitted to do so in the first place (nor, for that matter, what excuse was proffered by the ss agents guarding the bush twins for doing the same thing when they were apprehended for violating texas criminal statutes).
d. some weeping is called for. we should all be mourning the transition from constitutional republic to monarchy. you keep ignoring the obvious contradiction between the way this woulda played out if it involved you or anyone else who isn't a member of the ruling elite. do you really imagine you woulda been able to refuse to speak with the local sheriff when he showed up at the door? or that you'd be able to refuse to speak to him for an additional 18 hours, giving you that much time in which to consult with your advisers and attorneys. how about that 'sombre roast beef dinner'?
dunno about you ted, but i wouldn't have been able to take any dinner--much less sit down and formally dine--whether or not i had bodyguards keeping the law at bay.
