It was an accident, geez...Get over it already

The media needs to get over this Cheney shooting already....they act as if there is some crazy conspiracy behind the whole thing-like maybe his pal caught him bargaining for oil out in the woods, so the Veep had to but a bullet in him (or some weirdo story like that)...

I'm not even a big fan of the man, but cut him some slack....it was an Accident. Period.

at the same time they're laffing, they're also indicating their disapproval of cheney making exemptions for himself by a margin of 55% to 39%.

Come on, kb. You know you can get any answer you want out of a poll - just bias the question the right way, presto you're validated.

And there is no question that the press is now out to extract their revenge. All the heavy hitters are going to work with "big" pieces this week (Newsweek, Time, blah, blah) on the "secretive White House" shit. A pox on all of them.

I notice that everyone defending the whiners in the press didn't take my challenge. I spoon fed you information about as many hunting accidents as the anti Hunting crowd could muster and still you decided it wasn't worth your trouble. Link

Face it, VP Cheney didn't get preferential treatment here, and the ONLY reason the National Press Corps is crying is because they got dems feewings huwt.

We should all just pat them on the heads and send them to bed to cwy themsewves to sweep. If they want to act like prepubescent children we should treat them accordingly.

i hadn't seen it previously. possibly the reason you haven't had any chumps go for the okeydoke is it makes no sense to dig up coverage of hunting accidents unless they involve someone in high national office who refused to file a report with the local authorities for 18 hours.

hunting accidents aren't news...vice-presidents who believe themselves worthy of special consideration are.

Kingbee:

It matters because the oafs in the press is falsely accusing VP Cheney of something that they would have ignored completly if he wasn't the VP.

If charges are rarely (if ever) filed against anyone who did what VP Cheney did, why are they whining so much about it?

The statement, "if you or I did this we would be sitting in jail" (or anythign like that) is nothing but a blatant lie prepetuated by peope who have nothing better to whine about.

i don't know that charges are rarely if ever filed against someone who refuses to speak to the cops following a hunting accident. especially if the person involved is vice-president.

i have a difficult time believing a cop would allow himself to be turned away from the door if i were the one who pulled the trigger.

Kingbee: If you would take the time to follow my link (and accept my challenge) you WOULD know more. It doesn't surprise me that you don't care to know. To tell you the truth I put it under "humor" because the whole point of the game was to make fun of people like you. You want to spout off rhetoric but ignore the facts that I spoon feed you.

ROFL!!!!

what facts? i don't dispute your assertion that hunting accidents receive very little coverage.

you're ignoring (or possibly have blinded yourself to) the fact that this wasn't a run-of-the-mill hunting accident. not so much because of the celebrities involved but the way cheney et al handled it.

i'm still very sure you couldn't tell the sheriff you'd talk to him tomorrow any more than i could.

since you're so sure i'm wrong, i'm open to you providing me some documentation of that kinda thing happening regularly.

If the average person isn't going to face charges for this kind of accident, how is Cheney being given any preferential treatment? I provided you with a whole website of documentation, but you choose to ignore it and dismiss it. Well, I lived up to your challenge, but you chose to sidestep mine.

cheney shoots his friend. his friend is sent to the hospital. deputy shows up to find out what's up and is told to go away...cheney will give statement tomorrow. cheney & friends spend the rest of the night having dinner and discussing what to say.

it's not about the accident. it's not about being charged with anything. i keep asking and you keep avoiding the question: if you're involved in a hunting accident (or a car accident for that matter) can you tell the cops to buzz off and i'll talk to yall later?

i don't think so.

Keep telling yourself there is a point to be made here Kingbee.... someday you might actually start believing it.

Plain and simple, the national press got their precious little feelings hurt, so they made a mountain out of a molehill. How does it feel to be feasting on nothing?

i guess i'm gonna have to clarify a few things to help you see the point.

a. i have no problem whatsoever with dick cheney (or any other politician of his ilk) shooting wealthy republican-donating texans in the face or elsewhere. in fact, i'd encourage them to do it much more frequently using more accurate and powerful weapons.

b. i don't want to see a prosecution if some vice-presidential dick sprays his load all over a friend's face unless it's determined to have been intentional.

c. i don't believe there's any excuse for cheney to enlist the aid of his assigned secret service agents to interfere with local law enforcement officers. if they're sworn to the same duty as all other peace officers, i don't understand why or how they're permitted to do so in the first place (nor, for that matter, what excuse was proffered by the ss agents guarding the bush twins for doing the same thing when they were apprehended for violating texas criminal statutes).

d. some weeping is called for. we should all be mourning the transition from constitutional republic to monarchy. you keep ignoring the obvious contradiction between the way this woulda played out if it involved you or anyone else who isn't a member of the ruling elite. do you really imagine you woulda been able to refuse to speak with the local sheriff when he showed up at the door? or that you'd be able to refuse to speak to him for an additional 18 hours, giving you that much time in which to consult with your advisers and attorneys. how about that 'sombre roast beef dinner'?

dunno about you ted, but i wouldn't have been able to take any dinner--much less sit down and formally dine--whether or not i had bodyguards keeping the law at bay.
