Well I wish I had the bucks to get a new computer.

I guess I'm just going to have to face it...mine's too old and too screwed up to run my OD...so I'm just going to have to stick my old WB4 disk back in and hope at least I look through some of your beautiful skins anyway.

I've just done a complete factory restore and I'm having all the same problems I had before the restore...plus some...I'm wondering who's dumber.....me or my computer...

Oh!!! I got my MSN browser back though!!! Yay! Now I don't have to use IE as much because I think its so screwed up.....geeze I don't know....

Anybody know how to change the title bar on the top of my IE browser to just read Internet Explorer by Microsoft instead of the custom title that Compaq tagged onto it....Internet Explorer Provided by Compaq...?

It takes up the whole dang title bar on my browser and reminds me every time I use it ..who to blame for my crummy system lol.....I don't need the aggravation!!! ARGH!!

Dont forget to go to the windows website and do all your updates!
Dont forget to *Defrag and clear out all your temp files..

As for the browser, have you tried Firefox? IE has it's uses dont get me wrong, but Firefox I think is a bit more secure,and faster..

Try that and see if there is any improvement...as far as the IE titlebar, it should go away if you upgrade it through windows website...

I forgot to mention, do you run any type of anti-spyware progs? I ask because if you are losing browsers it sounds like you may have spyware and or virii.. I suggest Microsofts antispy, AdawareSE or Spybot.. I actually dont care for Nortons anti virus (anymore), Try AVG or Trend Microsystems, etc..etc..LoL..Anything but Nortons..

If you need links just hollar, people around here are FULL of links..LoL

I've done all that.....got my updates....av....adaware..spybot s&d....cleaned, defragged....took me 5 days lol

Upgrade? Oh....you mean to the beta IE7? Geeze I can't even get a normal computer to keep running right much lest try to test a beta!!!

This computer came with all these great big huge software packages that I uninstalled.......but somehow they're still there????....I was looking around in my hard drive and found some unzipped and extracted (the entire packages) all over the place......there's a quicken program I don't use and never have....right after the restore I uninstalled it but the whole dang program is still in my hard drive....complete in about 4 or 5 places....and I can't even delete it in safe mode....??

There were tons of crap on this thing that in the 'read me' states that they're not compatible with windows xp......so why the hell did compaq put em in there?

After the restore there was no runtime environment except one that opens with the training module so when I use IE everything's totally fuggied up

The java I installed (sun) doesn't seem to do its job

I have no backup capabilities

my computer sucks

shall I go on???

I still want to know how to upload to submit some wallpapers....the worst you folks can do is say they suck and refuse em

LoL...I have nothing to say about the moderation of skins/wallpapers, thats for the WC gods to judge..Wallpapers are a tough catagory though so dont get disappointed if the majority of them get refused..

As far as your "Dial-up" connection... Have you thought about satalite... Alot of these satalite companies these days are also ISP's and from what I have heard it isnt the greatest but it *is much better than dial-up... Other than that I have no other ideas...

I just re checked the prices again from our satellite service...on top of what we already pay for basic tv......they want another 45 bucks. We have 2 computers here....(not 'networked')on separated phone lines....it's the only way we could both afford to have internet for our computers......my local telephone line for my computer only costs 12 bucks a month...then I pay another 8 bucks a month for my dialup connection....on the other computer he has the regular phone bill about 65 bucks a month plus the 8 bucks for the dialup. We also have a separate long distance carrier....about 10 bucks a month....

we very rarely call out of our immediate area
we never call overseas or out of country
heck we rarely use the phone at all lol
but we have to keep a landline because we live in a dead zone for cellphones
and like I said, there's no fiber optic

I think our next door neighbor (with the damndogs lol)is tapping our satellite and getting free tv so why on earth would I want my computer that way anyway?

it's a different kinna tang here lol

the best thing about up here is the bass festival, the trout festival, the white pine (ski race) stampede, and little league ball games

and havin' a campfire in the backyard

the internet is my chance to get beaten up by the world for being a hick

I'm going to go find the bandaides lol

45 bucks is a little expensive, might be the only way unless you can switch Sat companies to another that has a better Package deal...

LoL, Been there done that, and I dont mean by way of a "Dude Ranch" LoL... and I miss it...

Dont let anyone beat ya up for being who you are, on the internet or anywhere else!

It has it's drawbacks and all boils down to choices. Like Internet connections..LoL

I think Zoomba is correct - many of those "factory restore" programs do not do a clean format.
