IGN has put up their final preview of Galactic Civilizations II.  The game will be out in another 9 days.  The preview goes over the play mechanics of the game and other details. It also has a lot of unique screenshots that make use of the color skinning system.

Good review, and always good to see more screenshots.

The only thing that has me puzzled is in this screenshot

The screenshot is of the Trade Window, where the Korx are attempting to trade for Universal Translators. Two questions, first, how are they able to communicate without them? Since we always have to research it before we can talk with anyone, it would make sense that the AI should have to as well doesn't it? Ok, so say that's not the case, why on earth (or Korx) would they want to trade anything for it if they don't need it?

Anxiously awaiting the game, it looks excellent.

The interface buttons are all messed up in some of the screenshots: http://media.pc.ign.com/media/724/724223/img_3381615.html

Actually, if you want to get techincal about it, only one race really NEEDS the translator to have a conversation, however the korx will still need the technology eventually to go a long with it.

Well, I downloaded the opening Intro Trailer they had up there. And well.. surprise suprise... I hear the voice of an Admiral. Or was it a Lieutenant, or at one point an Ensign.

Yeah, the voice actress sounds so very like Michelle Forbes, that I'm pretty positive the woman voicing the intro is the woman who's played Ensign Ro Laren (STNG), and most recently as Admiral Helena Cain, on Battlestar Galactica.

Very cool if it is.. and if it isn't.. well I'll be very surprised.

That's Admiral Cain? I have to listen to it again. What a woman!

Technically, although we used our Universal Translator to understand the Korx and what they wanted to trade. For the Korx to be able to then trade to the other known and unknown races thay they have come in contact with that we have not or have as the case may be the need for their own version of a UT is established....

hehehe, just need a legal expert to make that into legal eagle eaze.

ah yes. haha I did not think of that, but it makes sense. Ashain also pointed out that only one side of a conversation needs the UT, but if they wanted to talk to any other race that didn't have one, they would need it for themselves. Good thinking!
