Starbase Planets

I the Beta 5 you can't turn a star base into a planet and I doubt very much you can do so in the final release. Where did you hear such nonsense?!

I think spiceant is referring to the multiple mentions in the developer journals about a "planetary starbase" which was supposed to become a planet after being built. As far as I can tell, spiceant, that function will not be available in the game, at least as an initial release. Nor will the "Terror Star" starbase, which is also mentioned. Neither appear in the PDF manual; only military, influence, and economic starbases (along with resource mining bases) are in said manual.

As for your payment question, I have no idea.

I think what he means is a starbase that is self-sufficient and has shipyard facilities, etc. that make it function sort of like a planet?

That might be kind of cool, actually, but you'd have to restrict population size *severely,* or just have it act like a colony with only the initial colony dome in place, and no space for expanding, with modules giving small bonuses.

Maybe in some kind of future mod...

I'm Belgian so I had trouble with this as well.

Either you get yourself a creditcard to pre-order, or you start a PayPal account.
PayPal account can be charged ( opgeladen zoals Proton ) with your bank account.
I tried this myself but Dutch banks support PayPal while Belgian banks don't.
However, you can only use your PayPal account to order your game on-line ( [email protected] ) AFTER the game is launched. So you can't get the collectors edition unless you have a credit card.

Yes, you get the content either way. You can also opt to pay shipping and handling later for the physical parts of the collector's edition (the box and the tech tree poster).

Well, if you are interested by the collector edition extra contents, you should preorder the physical copy. You will get a temporray serial Id allowing you download the game and play it before recieving your final serial Id with your physical copy

Scenerio 1

Your on travel in January 2004 in the fine state of Alaska, USA somewhere around the middle of nowhere called Big Delta Junction, pop: 400 or so. Files crap out on that sweet game Galactic Civilization (hard drive acting up, old laptop) reload game from hard, physical copy as alll phone calls (which is the only way to the internet there) are noisy and the best connection you get is about 14.4 after all is said and done.

I am sure there are other reasons to want the hard copy. Thats just one that popped into my kat like mind.

The Collectors Edition includes a tech tree poster as well as an extra CD with extra things you can customize your ships with in the shipyard.

Yes... If you pre-order from Stardock you get the Collectors Edition even if you live in Europe.

However.. you need the BOXED version to get all of them.

If you pre-order the download version you will get extra content: Additional ship components, the Galactic Civilizations Desktop...
But you can't download a poster can you ?
So you need the boxed edition for everything.
