Small screenshots I want to read the specs on the ships

Good read though! I notice however, that this is yet another preview (Ive read at least three now by different previewers that say the same thing)where the author notes that the game is significantly challenging( well, significant enough to mention), even on the easiest levels. While this is great, and I want to be heavily challenged as my skills improve, I do hope theres a "stop and smell the roses" level of difficulty for more casual and exploratory playing.

Cant wait, though!

...difficulty pulled all the way down to the very minimum, which the game called "Cakewalk." Well, apparently I'm so bad at these things that even this was a challenge for me,

Uh... he sucks

I think you'll be able to do whatever you want without breaking a sweat at lowest difficulty.

Cakewalk is exactly that. You'll not have any problems.

Well it looks more like he played a single game. Which is what usually gets done for previews if I remember correctly. I too am worried if there is no tutorial. Since no good TBS has come out to attract the masses in years, many of them won't know how to play or what to do. Without something to hold their hands for a bit, there is a big barrier to entry into GalCiv2 and the genre. At the very least, whatever demo is created should have a robust tutorial mode. Heck even RTSs these days have a tutorial mode, even if they have become a gaming staple and they all work similarly.

there is a tutorial in glaciv2 the devs have said it and one of the screen shots that were shown looked like something you would c in a tutorial

actually it is titled tutorial videos

so yeah there will definently be tutorials but they just didnt send them in the preview package, which i think that they should be sent just so people get the impression that there is no tutorials

...I generally play the conventional RTS games like Rise of Nations and Age of Empires...

...and while I didn't play the first game to see the difference...

Being a novice to games like this, I immediately started the game with the difficulty pulled all the way down to the very minimum, which the game called "Cakewalk." Well, apparently I'm so bad at these things that even this was a challenge for me...

Is this really the best person to preview the game? I mean if the guy is looking for a Zerg rush or the traditional gather resource X then build Y units to kill player Z RTS formula, of course Cakewalk is going to be a death march for him. Its like having a Film critic rate a restaurant.

No he would definitly not be the best reviewer, though the fact he was able to be sucked into the game so quickly definitly helps it out. However, I think he is far more indicitive of todays most active gamers and what they've cut their teeth on.

yeah its a shame u make a cookie cutter RTS or sports game and you make tons of money and sell tons of games while truly innovative and fun and different games like pysconaunts get swept under the carpet and forgotten

however, this game is just too good for that to happen plus since its been released after civ 4 there may be more ppl looking into these types of games now that they ahve tried civ four and decided that they like the genre

As gamma tester, I definitely confirm that they are some tutorials. They consist in videos explaining how to handle the various screens

Taken on his own, I would have discared the comment. Its just this is the third preview that has referred to the game being surprisingly challenging, even on the easiest levels. The Gamespot piece did it in a positive sense, the gamespy previewer was critical in this regard. So, I think theres a legitimate recurring element here.

I'll take you guy's word for it, but remember, many of you have been testers, who are atypically comfortable and skilled with the game at this point...a game made by "hardcore" strategy gamers by any fair appraisial...so I have to measure a few grains of salt in here as well
