Attn: Wild Wombat - Data droids responding

You asked Bakka about game submission before and after the release of the x-pack. Here is what the top 25 empires and top 100 non-affiliated players did 1,2 and 3 weeks before and after the release of the xpack:

1 week before: 237; 1 week after: 327
2 weeks before: 476; 2 weeks after: 609
3 weeks before: 736; 3 weeks after: 778

I would say that yes, there was a jump of activity in each of the weeks following the release of the xpack. The 3 weeks before/after suggest that there was a huge amount of activity going on before, but I believe you would find a strong correlation with that time frame and when the "cranking" on lower level games was tailing off.

Plus, if you look at an earlier post I made (when I didn't know who asked) there has been a significant shift in playing maso vs other difficulties since the xpack release.

Note: there is a discrepancy between the games played before and what I have here. Not sure why, but the SQL statemement must have been wrong.

Here is the correct data for 3 weeks before:

Not meaning to throw a wrench in your droids, kid, but how exactly are there 9 submissions on 1.10 three weeks before the expansion even came out? :SURPRISED:

Ah, good question. I counted games submitted on 9/16 (the release date) as occuring "before", since the xpack came out late in the day. It would then stand to reason that a few lads or lasses got a game in with the xpack before midnight Eastern time. :)

That's probably resubmissions of pre-1.1 games. When you resubmit a game, your original submission date doesn't change.

kasualkid - greatly appreciated, and thanks for presenting the data! As expected, interest spikes immediately after the release and the maso shift is also apparent. If I read this right, there were a significant number of players submitting crippling and challenging games under 1.05 that seem to have disappeared under 1.10 (quite seperate from the beginner 'cranking' games). Wonder where they have gone? Not all to maso, by the looks of it. It would be interesting to stretch this out over months of data (no, I'm NOT asking you to do that ;) ) to assess the popularity of Meatverse activity in the community, remembering that Meta activity is only a small fraction of those who actually play the game.

At any rate, thanks VERY much for following up on this!

No problem. Without looking at the actual date of submissions, it would seem that the "sweet spot" of games played was "Normal" before (with 150 games across versions) with the next in line being "Painful" (with 120 games).

Hmmmm. Wonder how hard it would be to "chart" the mean a week at a time of the difficulty of games submitted.

Computer . . .
