Hi, I just got the game a few days ago and I'm loving it so far.
One thing I noticed, though, is that this is a very noisy game. It seems like every event has a long, multi-part sound effect to go with it. For example, the engineering bay upgrade effect sounds like R2-D2 reciting the Gettysburg address. The mutiny sound includes a yelling, angry mob, the guillotine blade sliding down, the "thump" of a head hitting the floor, and a reaction from the crowd afterwards. Part of this might just be my personal preference, but I think shorter, simpler sounds would be enough to get the point across, while being more quickly recognizable and iconic.
Another issue is that the longer sounds are, the more often they overlap. When the engineering bay, underground nuke, and steel surplus sounds are all going at once, it can be hard to tell what I'm hearing. Part of the problem might be that I'm mainly playing on large 8-player maps, so there's a lot going on. It might make sense to vary volume based on distance to the camera, so that the events pertinent to the player don't get drowned out by black-market fighting between two players on the other side of the map.
I know a lot of these are probably placeholder sounds, it's just something to think about for the final sounds. I'm curious whether other people feel the same way, or if it's just my minimalist side showing.
