Sometimes you'll hear the rumble and it says you've been targeted by an underground nuke (or whatever), and if you happen to be looking at that area at the time you can see where it happened.
It would be nice to be able to click on the warning text of what happened to jump to that spot, so you can take whatever action is needed.
