WELCOME
Dear Loser...(Chris)!
Blogging is a feature i'd very much like to see added to Steam, which as you may know i'm very fond of. Will Impulse be able to match Steam, even succeed it? Time will tell! Right now it's feeling very slowly and jittery, but I suppose you have to try and remember what Steam was like when that came out.
I'm all for competition etc., of course, but at the same time I like the idea of having all my games in one place and running from one interface, so Impulse kinda gets in the way of that a bit - plus if it gets really good I then have to try and persuade all my friends (some of whom I only just managed to get onto Steam) to make accounts here as well! Oh, the agony. Regardless, it has one thing Steam doesn't.. a blog! So here I am.. blogging. X-fire has a blog system but I have never been tempted by that for some reason.
Before we start, some utterly essential announcements. Firstly, this blog is "adult" because I swear a lot, not because I post pictures of boobs. Secondly, this post is called "the aftermath" cuz it's about the aftermath of my exams, see. Only, I haven't explained that yet. Cunning. Thirdly, this blog will probably only be read by me, until I can bothered to tell my friends about it, if I can be bothered at all. If you are one of those friends, please tell me! Otherwise, this is basically just a diary for my own amusement. If you are a complete stranger and have found your way here by accident.. hi. Don't expect to make much sense of the following, for I am from Edgbaston - we have our own special way here.
EXAMS
This post is so expertly arranged because, less than a week after exams, I am still in essay writing mode. These were law essays you understand. HEADING. SUBHEADING. SUBSUBHEADING. SUBHEADING. CONCLUSION. I must now arrange everything I write with delicious headings. I can't avoid it. Anyway, now that they're over and done with the gaming can, and indeed has, commenced. The aftermath of the exams has led to gaming, see? In this, the post-exam aftermath, nothing has been done which did not involve gaming in some way, shape or form. Right?
Mass Effect
I completely and utterly adored this game, more than I was ever expecting. I had more fun and became more involved than with any other BioWare game in the past, including my beloved KoToR. It started off well, what with me creating the most attractive avatar possible. It only got better. Jennifer Hale is probably the best voice actor EVOR - she helped create one of the most convincing characters in any game I've ever played. What is more, I helped mould this character in a way that most other games - heck, any other game- has allowed. The dialogue options aren't just "Okay I'll help you" "Hmm, I'll see" or "No, fuck off". Every single choice you make in the game can have consequences down the line in some way, and every line in the script has been expertly crafted. Moving away from the well known Star Wars universe has been a great move - the Mass Effect world is a genuinely fresh and intriguing one, where Humans aren't the dominant galaxy-wide force they usually are, but a newcomer to inter-stellar politics and distrusted by the other races. Why? Cuz we're all arrogant twats. Fair enough really. I can't really recommend it enough if you have any interest in playing character and plot driven games. I haven't even talked about the gameplay! Fuck you - this is a blog not a review. Gameplay is like Gears of War but not as good. By the end of the game I was really in the swing of it though and i felt completely at ease with the controls (which by all accounts are far superior to the original 360 gamepad control scheme). Yeah. GOOD STUFF MATE.
FSX
Whilst I wasn't busy trying to tell aliens to bugger off because Humans are clearly the best (my character was hilariously xenophobic - it's always more fun to play as a bit of a twat, especially in ME), I was busy trying to perform a landing with a severe crosswind. I love flying, I love planes, and now I have a giant joystick on my desk to prove it. The Cyborg EVO from Saitek - it's a beast. I love it. I got it along with FSX last week the day after my exams, and along with it came "Microsoft Flight Simulator X (i.e. FSX, if you were wondering what I was on about) for Pilots: Real World Training". Yes, it's as awesome as it sounds. I'm almost fully on the way to getting my virtual "Sports Licence". Which doesn't exist in the UK, but i'm guessing the skills will be useful. Me and Charles have been out virtually flying together via multiplayer as well, which is the BEES KNEES. We've flown over the pyramids, over London, over the Alps (until I crashed into the side of a mountain) and taxied together around the busiest airports (until he crashed into the back of me). Other than those minor incidents, we feel we've been getting pretty good at it. Soon I will progress to Chapter 9 and my first flight in a Cessna! I can barely wait.
DRAMATIC CONCLUSION
NERD LOL. So yeah, that's my current state of affairs in the gaming world re: mid-June 2008. What a time to be gaming. I guess I could also tell you about what i've been getting up to on the Wii, even though this is tagged as PC gaming. Lego Indiana Jones is what i've been getting up to on the Wii, to be precise. Pretty fun. Yeah. Don't mention the war seems to be the motto, as it doesn't feature Nazis. Luckily, Don't mention the fourth film was also on the agenda, so my campaign to forget it ever existed (it's worked with the Star Wars prequels.. almost. I'm still aware that they might exist, but I choose to believe it's a lie made up by MJ12) has been progressing nicely. Don't mention that film, dudes. IT WAS AWFUL REALLY WASN'T IT? PISSING ALIENS?
